Park City Trip Recap

Happy Tuesday guys!! Sorry I’ve been a bit MIA lately.. The flu that I had last week really set me back and knocked me on my booty. I’m finally feeling much better and so excited to share an overview of our ski trip to Park City. Aside from Ryan coming down with the flu halfway through the trip, we had such a great time and absolutely LOVED Park City. I had been a few times when I younger but really didn’t remember much of it so it was a blast to explore the adorable ski town and slopes all over again! Today I wanted to share a bit about where we stayed, ate, skied & apres skied. I truly felt like everything worked out so well and loved every last detail of the trip!

Where We Stayed

We stayed in this gorgeous rental home rented through Abode Luxury Rentals and it was above and beyond our expectations. The home was incredibly clean, furnished to a T and outfitted with super high end appliances and absolutely everything you could need. Abode also had local beers, ready to bake cookies and snacks waiting for us when we arrived.

We also couldn’t have asked for a better location. We were just a short 5 minute walk to a gondola that took us right up to the main Canyons gondola. As close as you can get to a ski-in/ski-out without paying the price tag that comes with a ski-in/ski-out place. It was also about a 10 minute drive into town which made it easy to get to dinner and groceries!

Overall, we were beyond impressed with our rental and the Abode team from start to finish and I couldn’t recommend their properties enough. They have properties all around the Park City & Deer Valley area. They also have rentals in Jackson Hole which is another place I’d love to visit.

Where we Skied

We skied at both Park City Mountain and The Canyons and I can definitely say that prefer The Canyons over Park City Mountain. There is lot more variety at The Canyons, it’s much larger and the views so so beautiful.

We started at Park City Mountain on our first day because almost everything at The Canyons was closed due to high winds – which by the way is pretty rare. We spent most of our day on the right side of the mountain riding the blue runs (and a black or two) around the Silverload Express and King Con Express chairlifts!

We skied at The Canyons on our second and third day. It’s such a big mountain that we split it up and spent our second day on the right side of The Canyons and our third day on the left side of The Canyons. There were so many great runs at The Canyons so it’s hard to name them all but a few of our favorites included

“Flying Salmon” via Saddleback Express: I’m still sad I only did this run once. It’s a little slower but it had lots of fun trees to ride in and out of – not that I’m that great of a snowboarder – I definitely got stuck a few times but it was a fun little challenge!

Upper and Lower “Crowning Glory” via Peak 5: This is a nice long blue run that goes through The Colony where all the stunning ski-in/ski-out homes are. This run along with all the others that go through The Colony are so just gorgeous, easy breezy and relaxing.

“Cloud 9” via Tombstone Express: This was my favorite black diamond I’ve ever done! Honestly, I’m definitely not good enough to be doing blacks especially because most of them are filled with moguls that are soo hard to maneuver on a snowboard but Cloud 9 was SO fun and just challenging enough to feel like I’m pushing myself. I had a bit of a spill but it was still such a fun and such a beautiful run!

“94 Turns”/”Moraine” via Ninety-Nine 90 express: This whole area is really difficult so I was pretty nervous to try it. While I really just kind of spent the whole run sliding in and out of moguls it was by far the most beautiful run I’ve ever done! It was also super quiet and peaceful. It made me wish I was a great skier because it was just too hard on a snowboard.

In general this trip really made me want to become a skier because I feel like I’ll be able to enjoy the beauty of the runs so much more on skis.

Where we ate

Everywhere we ate was SO good. I can’t take any credit for finding these places – our friends who we were with recommended them and they did an awesome job. I was so surprised that Park City had such a good food scene.

The Eating Establishment: When we first arrived, we ran into town to get a few things and walk around and had lunch here. It was such a quintessential ski town spot. Nothing fancy, just cozy with great feel good food! I had the Chili and the boys had burgers and everything was amazing!

Yuki Yama Sushi: We had dinner here on our first night and everything was outstanding! I LOVED the goat cheese stuffed shishito peppers and all the sushi we ordered was so yummy!

Handle: This place was the perfect level of casual but cool to unwind day of skiing and all the food was SO good! I wish it was here in Chicago. I had so many favorites on the menu but I think my top there would be the Duck Liver Mousse (literally tasted like a dessert), The Winter Squash Salad and the Mushroom Bolognese!

High West Saloon: High West whiskey, which is one of Ryans favorite whiskeys, is made just outside of Park City and they have a restaurant right in town! It has a cool classic saloon feel with really great food and cocktails! Everyone loved their meals (the girls had tacos and the boys had burgers) and the vibe was also awesome for a ski trip.

On our third night (after the spa) we were all way too tired and zen (haha!) to go out to dinner Hah!  So we just ordered pizzas. I don’t remember where we got the pizza from but we did have a hard time finding a place that looked like they had pizza in Park City.

Also, when we first arrived, we went to the local grocery store to stock up on breakfast food, snacks and drinks which is always essential on a ski trip!

Where we Après Skied

One thing I’ve learned is that a spa afternoon is a MUST during ski trips! We all booked massages at the Waldorf – guys included – and it was so much fun and relaxing! The Waldorf was a short walk from our condo which made it really easy to get there after a full day on the mountain. The massages and facilities were all fantastic and just what the Dr. ordered. We all hopped in the outdoor hot tub for a little extra relaxation before heading back home for pizza night.

I absolutely loved Park City and will definitely be back again! I’m hoping that next time we go back I’ll have learned to ski because I’d love the chance to check out Deer Valley which is close by!
