As I’m sure you’re already fully aware, COVID-19 is hitting small businesses hard. Not just restaurants but boutiques, salons, etc. are all impacted as well! It’s breaking my heart to think about the uncertainty that small business owners are feeling right now. I did some research and wanted to share some ways that you can support small businesses during this time.
Think Ahead & Shop Online: Do you have to buy birthday gifts, Mother’s or Father’s Day gifts, Graduation Gifts, etc? Or do you need an outfit for an occasion later in the year? Think about doing some of that shopping with small businesses online right now to give them business while they have to close their doors. It’s a great way to pass the time while you’re at home too! I’ve listed a few of my favorite small businesses for gifts and other occasions below:
Buy Gift Cards: This is another great idea that I saw someone mention. It’s an easy way to support places like salons, spas, bars, etc. Many of these places offer the option to buy gift cards online or over the phone. These all make for great gift ideas too!
Order Take Out: You’ve already heard this a million times but it’s just another reminder that your local restaurants need your business. Many restaurants are working really hard to offer take out so be sure to take advantage of those options on nights that you might normally eat out. Ryan and I usually eat out on Fridays and Saturdays so we plan to give some of our local restaurants business by ordering take out. Be sure to think about leaving a generous tip if you can. Ordering take out on the weekends will also reduce the amount of groceries you need to buy so that there are enough for everyone! A great way to hit two birds with one stone.
Have Compassion: I feel incredibly blessed to have the option to stay home and despite the fact that I don’t have to leave my house, I am still full of anxiety. I can’t imagine what those who are going to work to feed their families or keep their business alive are feeling. They are probably a lot more anxious/stressed than you can even imagine. If/when you do venture out for groceries or take out show compassion for those who are working hard to offer food, keep your grocery store stocked, etc. They are working around the clock and risking their health so thank them, be patient and just be kind to others.
