A Bright Start to the Week

I think its safe to say that just about everyone has experienced the Sunday scaries at some point in their life. Sometimes I even find myself starting to stress out on Saturday afternoons knowing that the Sunday scaries will be setting in soon. As helpful as it is to spend my Sunday afternoon physically preparing for the week ahead with things like like laundry, meal prepping, planning workouts and getting a head start on email, I’ve found that its even more important to mentally prepare for my week by reflecting on the previous week and getting inspired for the week to come. This is something I hope to get better at in 2018. I know that starting my week on a positive note sets the tone for the rest of my week and helps me feel confident that I can face whatever comes my way. Here are a few things I’m going to make more time for on Sunday nights so that I start my week on a much brighter note.

  1. The number one thing I want to get in the habit of doing every Sunday night is reflect on the positive things that happened the previous week and show gratitude for all the blessings in my life. I think its important to not only think about these things but write them down so that when you hit a bump in the road during the week you can remind yourself of some of the positive things in life. Someone once told me that it takes about 10 positive thoughts to outweigh 1 negative thought. Having a list of the happy, positive blessings in your life to reflect on will come in handy when you can’t seem to get those frustrating, negative thoughts out of your mind.
  2. I’m also hoping to make more time on Sunday nights to read more and get inspired for the week ahead. I love reading blogs like Gal Meets Glam and Southern Curls and Pearls and lifestyle websites like Refinery29, The Zoe Report and Purewow. I get all of their newsletters sent to my email and try to set aside some time to read through a couple articles or blog posts at night. This helps me to get inspired and feel excited about new things I can try that week.
  3. The last thing that I think will help make starting the week a little lest daunting is to focus on a couple overarching goals instead of every little line item on my to do list. I’m a big list maker and as helpful as my to do lists are, they can also stress me out especially at the beginning of the week. I’m working on setting three main goals for each week. Focusing on these three goals instead of the 100 line to do list has already started to give me more clarity on what I want to accomplish as I head into each week.

One of the apps/books that I’m planning to start using to organize all of these thoughts is called The Happiness Planner. I first saw their books at Anthro and after looking into it more I found out that they also have an app. I ended up using The Happiness Planner app for several months last year but got out of the habit of it. I think I’m going to try the book this time around. The Happiness Planner actually has you do this on a daily basis but I’m going to try and do it at least three times a week. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on how it goes!
