Anxiety is something that I have struggled with since I can remember so I’ve tried as many of the tips for calming anxiety as I could find. The things I get anxious about have changed but it is always there. Over the years, I’ve learned many different coping mechanisms and today I want to share some of the products that help me create a really relaxing environment for when my anxiety is getting the best of me or when I just need to wind down after a long day.
- Diffuser + Essential Oils: I was very skeptical of essential olis and using a diffuser at first but now I honestly don’t know what I’d do without mine. Anytime I need to create a calm environment for myself I fire this baby up. As much as I love candles, they are not the same as the essential oils which have very specific purposes for whatever you’re feeling. My three favorite oils are Lavender, Eucalyptus and the Live with Passion scents.
- Lavender helps to calm me down if I’m feeling overwhelmed and is also great for headaches.
- Eucalyptus reminds me of a spa so if I’m trying to work or just hanging out but want something soothing that won’t put me to sleep I’ll use this.
- Live with Passion is one of my go to’s for right before bed, especially when I know I have a stressful day ahead. I always wake up feeling ready to take on a new day.
- If you want to try out essential oils but aren’t ready to bite the bullet on a nice diffuser here are a few ways you can use Essential Oils to help you relax. I LOVE using them in the shower!
- Movie Scores: At some point in college I became obsessed with listening to movie scores when I studied. I find them super relaxing and they immediately bring me to a happy place. Just make sure you find a playlist with scores from happy and uplifting movies! ๐ I’m actually listening to my favorite playlist right now. Its on Spotify called “Movie Scores and Soundtracks that Move You – Beautiful Film Study and Sleep Music to Relax to” Also, when I’m in a bad mood, I love listening to the Father of the Bride sound track which is mixed with songs and scores, it ALWAYS makes me smile!
- Apple Watch Breathe App: A lot of people have told me that they hate this feature on the apple watch but I actually love it. I think its really nice to have something that reminds you to stop and breathe. I don’t always actually do the exercise but its a great reminder throughout the day. If you don’t have an apple watch, there are tons of great meditation apps out there that I’ve found helpful as well like Headspace and Calm.ย
- Adult Coloring Books: I’m someone who can’t just sit and do nothing to relax, it actually stresses me out more. Adult coloring books have been helpful for when I’m stressed but need to take a break from what it is that’s overwhelming me. I found this book while I was writing today’s post and can’t wait to order it. Each image includes a quote for inspiration or reflection which is usually just what I need when I’m feeling overwhelmed.
- Tea: Just as much as I LOVE coffee to keep me energized throughout the day, I love tea to help me wind down at night. Ryan loves tea as well so we just go this really cool tea maker. We make a pot of our favorite Calming Chamomile or Serene Dream tea just about every night before bed. I also have this tea diffuser if I just want to make a cup for myself. Both of the teas that I mentioned above will put me right to sleep if I’m feeling restless. The Cozy Chamomile works wonders for an upset stomach or as something to sip on in the afternoon when I’m stressed. Having a cute tea cup/mug like this one is also a must to make sipping your tea a little more enjoyable! ๐
After all of this you’re probably wondering if I’m 25 of 75! I’m a bit of a grandma sometimes but I have found that these things really work to help calm me down when I’m stressed or overwhelmed or just need to unwind. Next time you’re feeling stressed I highly suggest trying a few of these out. Also, feel free to send any questions my way if you need recommendations on teas or essential oils!
